September Hydrangeas
Oil on board 12x12"
Bridget Hunter 2013
It's been a good summer, long hot days, many a book read in the shade and grandchildren fun at the beach.
But there's been a time of thinking about my art too and conclusions that I've reached.
Trying to paint 6 works within a time scale for exhibitions is not for me.
I was unhappy with the paintings, and the pressure meant I wasn't able to enjoy the actual painting process.
So I've decided to cut back and enjoy putting paint onto canvas as a hobby, as I used to.
(All I can say is thankgoodness for my pension.)
Oh my gosh, Bridget, I'm feeling the same way! I've had 3 weeks while recovering from surgery (3 weeks to go!) to think about the pressures I've been putting on myself to paint, paint, paint, and sell, sell, sell. My conclusion is similar to yours. Glad to hear I'm not the only one. Love your little September Hydrangeas!!!
ReplyDeleteHello Carole - I love your Blog but haven't been commenting recently so it's good of you to add something here. Hope you're well on the way to recovery now. And it's good to hear that I'm in such lovely company where my decision is concerned.
DeleteThe white intermixed with the lavender is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGood to choose your own way of art making...out of the rush for gallery timetables. I stopped seeking shows a few years ago...I'm creating a notebook with photos of my work but on my own time. Enjoy!
Thankyou Blue Sky - and your work is so strong in it's own way - you're following your own path and producing wonderful work. Thankyou for your input which helps me be more sure of my decision.
DeleteI am in the throws of exihibition timescale hell and know exactly where you are coming from. I am feeling physically ill at times and only liking every other painting. You are very wise and also lucky to have your pension as you say.
ReplyDeleteLovely painting.....
Beautiful painting.
ReplyDeleteThankyou Margaret - and good luck with your exhibition. I'm only joining in local group shows now which as for only 1 or 2 works because you're right - I was really unhappy with at leadt half of the paintings. It's great to know we all feel the same pressure.
ReplyDeleteThankyou for visiting Gabrielle and for your lovely comment
