Loch Doon with a Dark Sky

Oil on board  20 x 24"
Bridget Hunter 2012

I'm not sure if I need a new camera or maybe wait until the paint is dry before trying to take a photo of a painting because, in reality, this is much deeper in tone. I even photographed it outside propped against a north facing wall but the colours look bleached. It might be good to go a get some lessons in photography. Think I've said that before many posts ago !!
Anyway, this is a view of Loch Doon, 17 miles from where I live, a beautiful wild area.

  2. Bridget - I always love your landscapes dominated by blues and yellows! Beautiful - even if you don't think the photograph does it justice! :o)

  3. Loch Doon looks like a wild place! You captured that wildness for sure.
Before you take lessons or buy a new camera try getting your hands on a great book I found. It's by Heidi Adnum and the title is the crafter's guid to Taking Great Photos. I am a visual learner and this book has really helped me improve my photos for my blog etc.
    Happy weekend to you!

  5. I find oil paintings extremely difficult to photograph, particularly when there is so little colour temperature at this time of year. There's no hiding the beauty of this painting though.

  6. Fabulous painting! Just wow. I think your photo is really good. Can't imagine how spectacular this is in real life.

Looking forward to many more views of this wild place!

  7. Thankyou everyone for your uplifting words.

I'm going to try to see if I can find that book Carole. An article from The Open University describes standing with feet either side of a painting, it being flat on the floor, and taking a photo from above. But I found that quite difficult :>))
